NICAR will do contract work for investigative journalists. If you have data in a format which you cannot read, we can transfer it to a CD-ROM in .dbf format, which is more easily manipulated.

Data Formats

We can read data in the following formats:

• 9 track
• Zip
• 3480 cartridge and 3490 cartidge format

If your data is in another format, we may still be able to read it, as we have access to other hardware as well.

Pricing

NICAR charges by the hour according to market size.

• Small markets - $50 an hour
• Medium markets - $75 an hour
• Large markets - $100 an hour

Additional Information

When you mail us the data, please include:

• The record layout
• The code sheets
• The contact name of the person who gave you the data, in case we have any questions about the data.

Ordinarily, we work with data which journalists aquire, and send us, but occasionally, we can work on getting the data for you and arrange a payment system. We do not do data entry.
