End-of-year-gift automatically increases
with Knight endowment challenge grant

As 2001 draws to a close this is the perfect time to make a gift to the IRE Endowment Fund. While the year may be ending, "IRE Forever" is just beginning. December not only marks the end of another year, but the celebration of many holidays. Your gift is an investment. This investment has the potential to reach far beyond our family of journalists who receive direct benefit from your generosity. Every journalist who attends a conference, seminar, workshop or boot camp is a better-prepared journalist. Every beat book, IRE Journal, Tracker, Uplink, tipsheet or dataset widens the knowledge for that journalist's newsroom - and ultimately the public.

IRE members freely share resources and information. The dozens of conferences and workshops and the thousands of e-mails shared through our listserv carry a common thread and consistent theme: helping each other through ideas and resources. The tragedy that befell our country on September 11, 2001, brings us together like never before. Excellence in journalism in this time of crisis is vital. The Knight grant provides financial strength to spread that excellence.

Our future is more secure because of the generosity of The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. Here is how the challenge grant works. Your endowment donation of $50 will automatically become a gift totaling $75 because of the one-for-two match from the Knight Foundation. In addition, if your company is a matching-gift company, your $50 gift could become a $100 gift (matched by your company) and this would increase the match from the Knight Foundation to $50 - tripling your original $50 gift!
