A three-month investigation by WSMV-TV (Nashville, Tenn.) found numerous instances in Davidson Country where handgun permits were not revoked from people served with orders of protection or convicted of domestic violence. Unlike other states, Tennessee has no procedure in place to facilitate the surrender of weapons once offenders are served with orders of protection. As a result of the investigation, the state is launching a statewide analysis of all orders of protection cases — over 13,000 — to make sure none of these people are allowed to have handgun permits.
