Suicides at state hospital investigated

Chris Halsne of Seattle’s KIRO-TV has found that workers at Western State Mental Hospital did not make scheduled checks on patients who committed suicide while under the hospital’s care. Other standards of care have also been neglected: in one instance, a young man hanged himself with a sheet by propping up a bed that should have been bolted to the floor. The station’s probe has prompted state and federal investigations into the hospital’s standards of care.
