Nonprofit hospital executives receive generous salaries

An investigation by John Ryan of KUOW-Puget Sound Public Radio found 15 top officials at nonprofit hospitals in the Seattle area earned more than $1 million a year according to the most recent IRS documents. Three dozen others earned at least half a million in 2007. “Washington state law says nonprofit pay can only be comparable to what public servants earn. Records obtained by KUOW show the most that any employee earned at a government hospital in the region in 2007 was about $950,000.” A list of the top earners (pdf) accompanied the story.
