2000 IRE Board of Directors Election Results

NEW YORK - IRE members voted on seven of 13 Board of Directors seats at the annual membership meeting in New York, which ended Sunday. Four incumbents were returned to office and three new members were named for the two-year terms. (Choosing not to run for re-election was Mike McGraw, Lisa Getter and Roberta Baskin.)

  • Shawn McIntosh The Clarion-Ledger (97)
  • Stuart Watson WCNC-Charlotte (95)
  • Joel Kaplan Syracuse University (92)
  • Paul Adrian The News of Texas-TXN (90)
  • Stephen Miller The New York Times (85)


    Others receiving votes during the election were:

  • James Grimaldi, The Washington Post, (79)
  • Steve Doig, Arizona State University (64)
  • James Dyer, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (31)


    A second election to name two judges for the annual IRE contest was held. The winners of that election were:

    James Grimaldi, The Washington Post
    Steve Doig, Arizona State University


    Following the election, the board chose Jim Neff to serve as president, David Dietz as vice-president and Shawn McIntosh as treasurer. Judy Miller, who had been president, became chairman.
