Content Producer, Consumer & Investigative

NBC Universal is now hiring Content Producer, Consumer & Investigative.


  • NBC4 is looking for a hands-on Consumer and Investigative Content Producer to join our award winning News department
  • Responsible for researching, writing, editing, producing and gathering content for investigative and consumer stories. Will work closely with management, editorial staff and reporters
  • Responsible for creating daily consumer and investigative stories as well as long form reports
  • Provide editorial guidance; establish contacts in the field, manage tips and public records requests, compose open records requests, and conduct interviews
  • Take ownership for the overall coverage of investigative and consumer content on all of NBC4’s platforms, including but not limited to broadcast, digital and web
  • Perform investigations which may include undercover work or surveillance as necessary


  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in newsgathering and/or production
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience writing, producing and editing day-of-air news stories on a desktop editing system

  • Must be willing to work in Burbank, CA
  • Willingness to work non-traditional business days/hours, travel and work long hours, and on weekends with short notice
  • Must be willing to submit to a background investigation
  • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must be 18 years of age


  • Significant experience in the news environment and strong journalistic skills
  • Experience in consumer and investigative newsgathering and/or production
  • Experience partnering with legal and working knowledge of federal, state and local laws impacting operations as they relate to investigations, undercover content and hidden cameras
  • Strong CAR (Computer Assisted Reporting) skills
  • Basic understanding and demonstration of creativity, editorial judgment, journalistic ethics and libel laws
  • Experience with news photojournalism and non-linear editing preferred
  • Basic understanding and demonstration of multi-media file formats and strong computer skills
  • Strong computer research skills, and working knowledge of analyzing data
  • Significant experience in the news environment and strong journalistic skills
  • Ability to write, edit and produce under heavy deadline pressure without compromising accuracy or credibility
  • Creatively deliver news as it develops on all current and future platforms
  • A pioneering spirit with desire learn emerging technologies and invent the future
  • Believes that teams are smarter and more dynamic together
  • Passionately develops and presents story ideas
  • Invested and engaged in the local community and authentically understands and represents local viewer interest
