Full-Time Journalism Professor
Columbia College Chicago is an urban institution of over 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students emphasizing arts, media, and communications in a liberal arts setting.
The Department of Journalism is seeking applications for a full-time tenured or tenure-track professor of Journalism who has taught at the college level and has professional experience in multimedia and/or broadcast journalism. Successful candidates will be collegial and versatile, grounded in reporting and storytelling but adept with emerging technology, and passionate about preparing the next generation of journalists for successful careers.
Duties & Responsibilities
Our new colleague will teach core courses as well as specialty classes in his or her area of expertise, and will be expected to innovate in both teaching and curriculum. The teaching load is nine credit hours per semester. Tenured and tenure-track faculty advise and mentor students, supervise courses, develop curriculum, serve on department and college committees, and remain active in the field through creative and scholarly endeavors. The contract runs from August 16 to May 31 each academic year.
Minimum Education & Experience
A master's degree is required. For the rare, exceptional candidate, a distinguished professional body of work and a strong teaching record will be considered in lieu of the advanced degree requirement.
The successful candidate will need to be both a leader and a collaborator, someone who can help our curriculum evolve while emphasizing the principles and practices of ethical, engaging journalism. We are seeking someone with enthusiasm for dynamic pedagogy, a drive to stay current with emerging journalism practices, an excitement about entrepreneurship, and a commitment to the bedrock of our field: accurate reporting and compelling storytelling.
