News Applications Specialist

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is looking for a talented news applications specialist to join its newsroom as it accelerates the AJC’s digital journalism.

This specialist will work with reporters, editors and others to design and build creative, meaningful products for the AJC’s digital platforms, including wired sites, tablets and smartphones. Additionally, the specialist will help support existing AJC apps. Candidates should have experience in successfully conceptualizing and building news apps, data visualizations, and interactive graphics.

This position is part of a newsroom team that will make the AJC’s most important stories come alive in compelling and innovative ways for our digital readers. Because the existing team members come out of programming and data analysis, design sensibility and background is strongly preferred to complement the team.

Applicants should have programming skills to develop apps for HTLM5/CSS3 environment and others that may emerge. Experience necessary with a server-side scripting language such as Ruby or Python, and with server-side web development frameworks such as Rails or Django. Also needs fluency in Javascript. Experience with D3.js and with an MVC framework such as Backbone a plus.
