The American Independent News Network is seeking investigative reporters to be based in Washington, DC.  Strong investigative and narrative writing skills are a must.

AINN is a web-based news organization dedicated to original reporting on progressive issues.  These include corruption and influence in government, failures in justice, discrimination, human and civil rights abuses, economic injustice, and environmental threats.  

Reporters must be able to:

  • Pitch original investigative stories consistent with AINN’s audience and focus;
  • Meet deadlines on self-originated projects as well as those assigned by the Editor.
  • Work collaboratively with AINN’s team of investigative reporters;
  • Develop and cultivate sources on relevant national issues, with a Washington, DC, focus.
  • Utilize digital tools such as Lexis/Nexis, Pacer, etc.
  • Investigate, interview key subjects, write and work with the Editor on revisions.

Familiarity with computer-assisted (database) reporting as taught by NICAR would be helpful but is not required.

Reports to:  Editor of The American Independent.

This is not an entry-level position.  Candidates should have at least 2 years experience in investigative journalism whether online, in print or for television. The positions will be based in DC.
