Computer-assisted reporting specialist
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is seeking a computer-assisted reporting specialist to collaborate with reporters and editors on watchdog and investigative stories. This person will join a newsroom that is highly committed to investigative reporting, growing its brand around that franchise. Watchdog at the AJC is not an occasional, five-course meal, it’s our daily bread and butter.
The ideal candidate will have experience or training as a journalist but be driven by a deep desire to use data analysis to unlock information and tell stories that make the AJC indispensable to anyone who cares about the communities we serve. You’ve got to love working with computers, but you’ve also got to love working with people – collaborating day in and day out with reporters across the newsroom, helping them learn, stretch and shine. Applicants should have an extensive track record with Structured Query Language, a working knowledge of GIS mapping and the ability to learn statistical analysis. In addition, we’re looking for some who can negotiate effectively with government bureaucrats to acquire databases and advance transparency in government.
Please send resume and work examples by Aug. 7th to firstname.lastname@example.org.
