The Star Watch team is seeking an investigative reporter to produce high-quality accountability journalism. Our close-knit, collaborative team prides itself on strong reporting, seductive storytelling and digital innovation. If you want to root out corruption and waste in government, and expose ethical lapses and influence-buying, this is the job for you. Expect to produce a steady stream of short- and long-term enterprise that builds our community brand by demonstrating to readers that we are watching out for their interests.
The ideal candidate will have a solid track record of digging out hard-hitting watchdog journalism, either on an investigative team or on a significant beat. Show us how you have used investigative techniques such as public records requests, databases and dogged reporting to bring reform. We’re looking for an innovative thinker, who pushes us to try new ways to present information online, and understands the importance of social media in reporting and promoting our content. If you are also a fine writer who knows how to make an emotional connection with readers, that’s even better. Solid, clear writing, versatility, and an ability to make sense of complicated issues? That’s a must.
You should have a bachelor’s degree and at least five years of reporting experience, preferably on a metro daily or a respected online watchdog organization. Team reporting experience is also helpful.
