Investigative/Consumer Reporter

CBS46, Meredith’s top DMA broadcast station, with 35+ hours of local news weekly as well as top prime and high profile sports programming, is seeking a member for its money team.  The Investigative/Consumer Reporter will research, produce and present original, local news stories with a consumer focus that will help establish/maintain the station’s identify and image in the community and support the station’s brand.  Responsible for obtaining and verifying evidence by interviewing, observing, or by analyzing records.   This reporter will also be accountable for accurate reporting of stories as they may impact and/or create controversy in the local community and will be expected to develop community contacts and sources to deepen their enterprise work.


Education: Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Broadcasting or related field, or equivalent training and/or experience.

Experience: Five to seven years related reporting experience. Investigative experience strongly preferred.

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

Strong understanding of undercover reporting - legal, journalism, ethical issue, strong writing 
Knowledge of current events 
News management software and editing, preferably, iNews and Avid
Strong research, journalism and storytelling skills
Outstanding organization skills
Ability to multi task and manage short and long-term projects
Ability to fashion a story visually
Strong writing skills
Ability to work under minimal supervision
Knowledge of the FOIA process, computer-assisted reporting, data-driven reporting and legal issues preferred
Strong on-air presence
