Reporter III – Environment and Labor Team

The senior reporter will join the Center for Public Integrity’s Pulitzer-winning environment and labor team, working on individual stories and projects covering subjects such as environmental justice, climate change, energy development and manipulation/suppression of science. The team’s goal is to produce powerful, character-driven stories that highlight regulatory lapses and corporate misconduct that threaten public health and the natural environment. Computer-assisted reporting skills are a plus, though not as essential as strong reporting and writing skills. All of the reporter’s work will appear on the Center’s website. There also will be opportunities to work with broadcast and online partners. Occasional travel encouraged.

Responsibilities and Expectations:

  1. Uses sources, documents, data and other tools to report and write investigative stories on the environment.
  2. Works with managing editor to develop story and project ideas.
  3. Works with Center’s digital team on video, graphics, etc.
  4. Coordinates with Center’s computer-assisted reporting team on data-driven stories and projects.
  5. Adheres to Code of Ethics and Editorial Standards and Practices of the Personnel Policy Manual and Employee Handbook.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

 Skills:

  • Strong research and writing skills
  • Ability to develop sources
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision

Experience:

  • At least five years’ reporting experience, with a portfolio of enterprise stories
