Investigative Data Researcher
LegiStorm, a disruptive congressional information service on Capitol Hill, has an immediate opening for a highly motivated and energetic Investigative Data Researcher.
You will be a key member of our data team, performing research on a wide range of matters concerning Capitol Hill, including congressional financial disclosures, lobbying, the revolving door with K Street, campaign finance, private travel and more. If you are a good writer, we will encourage you to turn your findings into posts for our daily blog, Caught our Eye – but we value your research skills more than your writing ability.
- Strong research skills, with 3 years minimum work experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
- Highly intellectual – tight logical-reasoning skills and an ability to understand complex situations is a must
- Penchant for skepticism – always questioning data and seeking out issues to research
- Enterprising work ethic – can work independently and doesn’t wait to be told to do something
- Strong writing skills a plus
- Knowledge of SQL is not required, but is a plus
Work Environment and Benefits
This is a full-time job. Hours will be roughly 9–5:30, Monday–Friday at our office located in the Capitol Hill/Atlas District about a mile from Union Station. Street parking is plentiful and there are multiple bus lines which stop within a few blocks of the office.
Competitive pay. 100% employer-paid HMO after 90 days. 2 weeks annual leave, 1 week sick leave, holidays. Free on-site gym and pool. Lunch, coffee, snacks, and other beverages are provided daily. Casual dress permitted but casual dress does not mean a casual attitude -- we mean business.
