Senior Multimedia Journalist
The Record Searchlight, one of California's most respected community dailies and an industry leader in digital journalism, seeks a senior multimedia journalist with a body of work that displays the ability to break news, develop broad sourcing and cause change through watchdog journalism.
The ideal candidate also will have multimedia work samples. Your future colleagues are talented, friendly and occasionally quite funny. They work very hard, and you will too. Video, social media, database publishing and near-live Web updating are well established in our culture and part of the daily workflow for this position. Must be self-motivated, enjoy multitasking, be happiest completing multiple assignments daily and have a passion for news.
Pay for the position is aimed at securing an experienced journalist, and in line with our size paper. California's north state is stunningly beautiful and free of crowds. It's not great for clubbing. If you enjoy work that matters and life in the great outdoors, you should talk to us.
Skill Requirements:

Ability to post breaking news.

Must be able to operate a camera equipped with still and video capabilities.

Must be able to create photo galleries and slideshows.

Must be able to write clearly and succinctly on a variety of topics, which may extend beyond the primary focus of the beat.

Must have the intellectual curiosity to follow the volatile issues of the day and look for ways to allow online readers a chance to voice their perceptions on those issues, via a poll question or impromptu man-on-the-street video.

Must possess acute organizational skills to stay ahead of the expected aspects of a beat, envisioning trends, preparing for possible detours, scheduling timely follow-ups. Must have basic knowledge of web publishing tools and/or the ability to learn new technology quickly.

Must be able to communicate clearly and openly with other employees. Must have proficient use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint).

Must have exceptional communication and presentation skills.
Educational Requirements:
Requires a BS/BA in news/media discipline or equivalent experience. Generally 3-5 years of experience at a newspaper or digital equivalent.
