Off Campus Crime
While the Clery Act requires Texas universities to report on campus crime, they are not required to report any off campus crime that affects their students. The numbers were staggering and showed a clear difference in the safety of students on campus versus off.

The story shows how the university president used taxpayer dollars on first-class travel, a luxury automobile and home renovations... all when he was doubling student tuition.

If These Walls Could Talk
Rental property in two neighborhoods heavily populated by University of Minnesota students were found to have faulty plumbing repairs, a lack of or broken smoke detectors, handrails missing in the interior, and illegal wiring. Reports were kept over three time periods since 2001 to check the safety of the properties because of a house fire that killed University of Minnesota students.

Power Trips
Medill students partnered with American Public Media and the Center for Public Integrity to examine travel taken by members of Congress and their staffers paid for with private dollars, largely by lobbyists. They expanded the publicly available database to include travel by staffers and travel though June 30, 2006. Reporters from Medill NewsService wrote over 30 stories based on the data.
