New Orleans's tech contracting scandal
Former top mayoral aide, Greg Meffert, was caught in a web of self-dealing and exposed free vacations that the mayor had received. The series “helped the FBI and other federal investigators track the payments and relationships”. Also, it eventually “led to a 63-count federal criminal indictment against Meffert, his wife and the city vendor, Mark St. Pierre”.

NOAH Housing Program Investigation
WWL-TV's 50 part investigation into a non-profit City of New Orleans agency revealed a post-Hurricane Katrina house gutting program designed for the poor and elderly may have been a scheme to funnel money to contractors. The investigation showed homes the non-profit claimed to have gutted using federal dollars, but the work was never done. Through extensive research, the WWL-TV team also found significant links between the highest paid contractors and the executive director of the non-profit. And one contractor was even linked to the city's mayor, Ray Nagin.

The Great Deluge: Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf Coast
The aftermath of Hurricane Katrina is the topic in this book by noted historian Douglas Brinkley. He finds out how and why the evacuation was botched, relief efforts were delayed, and also "incidents of racism and brutality on the part of local police." He also examines how the Coast Guard and local citizens banded together to save people from the flood. New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin denied much of the charges in the book, but later acknowledged the truth of them publicly.
