Air Scare
This series includes the breaking news of a terrorist bomber and the advancement of the story by CBS News. The terrorist bomber failed to “fully detonate the deadly ingredients of a powerful bomb on board a flight headed to Detroit from Amsterdam”. The deadly ingredients of the bomb were undetected by security screening in Amsterdam and he had an active visa through June 2010.

Dateline NBC: Inside the Cell
Dateline NBC investigates an alleged terrorist plot to blow up a transatlantic airliner in flight using liquid explosives concealed as sports drinks. Some critics challenged the viability of the plot and the new security measures restricting liquids on airplanes. However, Dateline discovered the conspiracy was far more developed than the public had known and that plotters had received direction from individuals linked to al-Qaida's senior leadership.

Pittsburgh Terror Plot
In October 2001, it was made known that Pittsburgh was on a list of seven US cities cited as possible targets for terrorism. The WTAE-TV investigation confirmed with sources inside the US Justice Department that in the days following the attacks of 9/11, American intelligence agents in Hamburg, Germany, discovered plans for a possible Al Qaida assault in Pittsburgh. The target was the US Post Office and Courthouse in Pittsburgh.

Twin City Terror Connection
A KMSP-TV investigation uncovered evidence of "a possible 'terror cell' in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area. (KMSP-TV traced) the steps of a convicted felon, an illegal alien from Pakistan who swindled thousands of dollars from Minnesota banks in a very short period of time in early 2001. ... (KMSP-TV) found evidence of possible connections to Al Qaida."

ABC News Special 9/11 -- Nuclear Smuggling Project
Broadcast on the anniversary of 9/11, an ABC investigation illustrates the threat of nuclear terrorism by showing how a shipment of radioactive material can easily pass through the U.S. customs. The segment shows correspondent Brian Ross traveling with a suitcase of depleted uranium across Eastern Europe, which he later shipped from Istanbul, Turkey, to the United States. The test material cleared the U.S. customs and was delivered to a warehouse at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge.

The Making of John Walker Lindh
Time Magazine tells the life story of the American Taliban John Walker Lindh, who grew up as a "quiet, bright young boy" from the suburbs. In Oct. 2002 Lindh was set to be sentenced to a maximum of 20 years in prison on terror charges. "For once, we could see why he would change the liberal comforts of Marin County, California, for the simplified, un-airconditioned means by which he lived in Afghanistan," states the contest entry questionnaire.
