Katrina's Hidden Race War / Body of Evidence
The stories describe racial conflict that occurred in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. "Katrina's Hidden Race War" chronicles the formation of an armed militia in a predominately white neighborhood that shot at African American males suspected of looting. "Body of Evidence" outlines the death of Henry Glover and the New Orleans Police Department's refusal to seek medical attention for him. Glover's incinerated body was later discovered behind the Fourth District police station.

When a fire destroyed the St. Vincent de Paul Charity warehouse one week before Christmas, the citizens of Detroit donated thousands of items to replace the loss. WXYZ exposed a demolition contractor taking advantage of the charity. The investigation discovered instead of delivering the debris to a licensed landfill, the contractor had been dumping the charred remains all over town. WXYZ found four illegal dump sites in Wayne County, including one right next to an elementary school. (July 11, 12, 25, 1996)
