Contractor Pure Premium
Analysis of the State Compensation Insurance Fund (SCIF) has led to new conclusions about the marketplace and control of rates in the California workers' comp. It was found that if one carrier held a major market share of any specific class, or classes, that by adjusting its loss reserves or thoise reserves it reported to the Bureua by sheer magnitude of data it could affect the rates up or down as it chose.

Blowing In The Wind
Two whistle blowers share the story of how State Farm Insurance "was systematically defrauding its loyal customers" in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Sisters Cori and Sherri Rigsby are State Farm insurance adjusters who told ABC News about how State Farm employees "were instructed to fraudulently alter customers' claim forms and even shred documents so the famous insurance company could avoid paying benefits to families who lost everything in the hurricane."

Hurricane Charley's Aftermath
Soon after the first of Florida's four hurricanes, victims started calling WINK-TV to complain that their insurance companies were not covering the claims they filed. Florida's Chief Financial Officer Tom Gallagher launched a crackdown on adjusters who underpay claims, and investigated the state's insurance pool. There are now Congressional investigations in Washington based on WINK-TV's story.

Fire in St. Paul
Star Tribune (Minneapolis) conducts a year-long investigation showing that a fire chief has contributed to a culture in which arson thrives. The chief has tolerated shoddy fire investigations and sllowed firemen to moonlight for a firm that has represented alleged arrsonists in fire insurance claims.
