This investigation discovered a county treasurer with a salary of $80,000 per year playing golf on 41 of 67 weekdays. After the story was publicized the county commissioners moved to cut the treasurer's salary but found that there was no legal precedent for doing so.
The author proposes that the U.S. Supreme Court was fooled into basing it's decision in Lawrence v. Texas on Right to Privacy grounds. But, Law says, those grounds actually did not exist because the arrests were invited. This discrepancy is important, because the Lawrence case set a precedent for privacy cases regarding same sex marriage, adoption, employee benefits, etc.

ABA Journal looks at the increase in recent years of scientific evidence in legal trials. Many juries are not schooled enough in the sciences to determine whether or not a witness is a credible scientific "expert." A new precedent set in Daubert v. Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals Inc. hopes to increase the responsibilities of federal judges as "gatekeepers" to keep out incredible scientific testimony.
In July 1977 heavy storms broke open the Laurel Run Dam, killing 39 people. A 10 - year legal battle, which ended with out-of-court settlements for the victim's families, hid the reasons for the dam failure. By unsealing those records and obtaining hundreds of others, The Tribune-Democrat discovered that a long history of poor maintenance and unheeded warnings preceded the dam break. (March 19 - 20, 1995)
