"Disposable Soldiers"
Reporter Joshua Kors exposes the story of Sergeant Chuck Luther who was severely injured by "mortar fire while serving in Iraq." His injury took the form of intense headaches that caused his vision to black out. He was asked to sign documents that claimed he had a "pre-existing condition," and when he refused, he was locked in a closet for more than "a month, with armed guards enforcing sleep deprivation." Finally, Luther signed the documents, which stripped him of disability benefits and long-term medical care.

"Faces of a Health Crisis: L.A. County's Swine Flu Victims"
The Neon Tommy team takes a look at the people directly affected by the H1N1 virus in L.A. County to find out exactly who was dying from the virus and why. In a review of 44 death certificates, the team found that 22 of the deceased had no "preexisting conditions" before contracting the H1N1 virus. They also found that the majority of those who died from H1N1 were women.

Three Commentaries
The Memphis Daily News' Lindsay Jones turns her eyes on many topics in these commentaries. First, she writes about a woman who had brain surgery years ago, and her attempts to cope with the after-effects now she has no insurance coverage. Jones contrasts this with Governor Phil Bredesen's "illness from a suspected tick bite and his trip to the vaunted Mayo Clinic." Also, Jones writes of the midterm Senate race pitting Harold Ford, Jr. against Bob Corker; and also the experience of being a Wal-Mart shopper.
