Policing Hollywood
The author investigated the Hollywood (FL) Police Department. The three articles look at the cronyism and nepotism in the police force and the firm grip the Police Benevolent Associationon held on the police force. The union largely runs the police force and those that don't fall in step are punished, while loyalists are rewarded with promotions and lucrative off-duty deals even if their police work is sub-standard.

Armed and Dangerous
Chicago's Free Weekly looks at the case of a woman raped by a detective. The investigation finds "a disturbing lack of supervision, even negligence, on the part of the police department." The story follows the "warning signs, ... bright and flashing," in the police career of Earnest Marsalis, the detective charged with the rape, and reveals allegations that he has engaged in sex with a minor and participated in a possible drug deal.
