Return to IRE Training

Host: American University

This workshop is being made possible in part by a grant from Carnegie Corporation of New York. Additional sponsorship provided by American University, School of Communication and Investigative Reporting Workshop

At this one-day workshop, learn how to follow the money and its influence after the election. The workshop will emphasize money in local and state elections on the horizon, including the impact of "527 organizations," tax-exempt political groups that do fundraising and advocacy related to political issues or voting at those levels.

Optional Computer-Assisted Reporting Training will be offered on Saturday from 9am - 12:30pm. This hands-on, computer-assisted reporting class will build data analysis skills for reporters covering money in politics. The class will use federal and state-level data, including "527" data from the IRS. Instructors will emphasize story ideas generated by the analysis. There are limited seats for CAR training, so sign up early to reserve a seat.
