The IRE Conference offers an opportunity for in-depth, one-on-one coaching on investigative reporting. Mentees get advice from experienced journalists on improving their skills and on how to pursue the right documents and sources for their stories. See a list of past mentors and mentees.

Special thanks to the Scripps Howard Foundation, the main sponsor for the 2008-2009 mentorship program.

More mentoring opportunities: Poynter's Al Tompkins will again be at the conference to critique tapes from broadcasters on Sat., June 7, so don't forget to bring a sample of your work. (There is no pre-registration for these sessions.)

For journalists from all media

Sign up for mentoring with accomplished print reporters and editors who have significant experience. Broadcast journalists will be paired with experienced reporters or producers.

Once you have signed up, IRE will pair you with a mentor and contact information will be provided to both of you. You and your mentor can then agree on a time and place to meet at the conference.

These sessions are not for job seekers; they are designed for teaching and sharing information. You should bring examples of your work and story ideas.(Note: IRE is unable to provide private access to audiovisual equipment for broadcast mentoring. Please make your own arrangements if your mentor agrees to review a a work sample.) The limited number of openings require sign-ups prior to the conference. The deadline for requesting a mentor was May 10.
