Bolles and the Arizona Project

Don Bolles

The legacies of Don Bolles and the Arizona Project Team will
be honored throughout the conference, but in particular at the
Friday luncheon.

We will show a special video about Bolles and the Arizona Project. Produced by Phoenix television station KPHO, the video will describe that day in June 1976 when a hired killer detonated a bomb under Bolles car, and includes the haunting sound of the blast -- captured on a lawyer's dictation tape a block away. It tells how the fledgling Investigative Reporters and Editors organization that Bolles helped start responded to the murder of one of their own by banding together to finish his work. Those reporters who responded to the call will be recognized at the luncheon -- not only for what they did 20 years ago -- but for setting the standard of what IRE is all about: furthering the ideals of investigative reporting by committing to help each other.

The Arizona Project exhibit will be on display throughout the conference in the Aztec room.
