Specialized training
IRE and NICAR can parachute into your news organization, bringing our laptop computers, stories from our morgue and time-tested training techniques to your newsroom. These private workshops range from basic computer-assisted reporting sessions for 30 reporters to tutoring experienced computer-assisted reporters in statistical analysis, mapping and advanced data techniques in your newsroom on your stories.
Our experience includes more than 500 workshops over the past six years, including giants such as The Washington Post, Chicago Tribune and CBS News to aggressive smaller newspapers and television stations such as the Aberdeen (S.D.) American News and The Lima (Ohio) News. We're happy to customize training to suit your needs using the software you choose.
Here's what we offer:
We come to you, even if you don't have a training lab in your newsroom. We can accommodate up to 20 participants at a time using our laptop computers, which come fully loaded with software and practice exercises.
Road-tested sessions created by and for journalists, conducted by trainers who are experienced reporters and trainers.
Our training is customized to fit your needs. Do some of your reporters, editors or producers need the basic skills to navigate electronic public records, while others need more advanced training or help with difficult data and stories? We'll split a session to accommodate both.
Choose the program that best fits your needs or work with our training director to build a course that addresses concerns specific to your newsroom.
