Better Watchdog Workshop
Los Angeles, Calif. — April 11-12, 2008
(Friday and Saturday)
Hosted by the Annenberg School of Journalism at the University of Southern California
The Better Watchdogs workshop will offer practical nuts and bolts instruction for reporters, especially those at small- to medium-sized newsrooms and in bureaus of larger news organizations. The instructors will be experienced journalists and trainers from IRE.
The workshops will also cover the guiding of reporters in the effective use of the Internet, open-records laws, computer-assisted reporting and anonymous sources.
The workshop will include the Selden Ring Award Luncheon. The Selden Ring Award underscores the critical importance of investigative journalism in today's society. The $35,000 prize recognizes published investigative reporting that has brought results.

Workshop Fee: (includes a six-month IRE membership): $40 professional, $20 student
Optional Computer-Assisted Reporting Training will be offered on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for a registration fee of $30 (seating is limited to the first 20 people to sign up).
