KSDK-TV revealed that the St. Louis Health Department has been handing out thousands of “A” inspection grades to restaurants that, according to the city’s own policies, should have gotten a “B” or “C” or even been shut down. Restaurants with roach infestations and multiple serious health violations were still given the top mark.

KSDK reviewed more than 10,000 health inspections and discovered that a surprising 96 percent of restaurants ended in an “A”. The station also found that even when a cook had open sores on his arms, and wiped and blew his nose into his apron while cooking, the restaurant still got a “B”. Experts called the grades unfair to consumers and bordering on fraud.
