CNN obtained an email sent to Chicago’s unarmed aviation police officers informing them that they would not be dispatched to disturbances in the baggage claim area.

The email was sent on January 6, hours after the mass shooting which killed five people at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida.

An aviation police officer who spoke to CNN said “Instead of doing the right thing, they are basically telling officers don’t look for any trouble, just walk away. Officers are shocked by this.”

An earlier CNN investigation found that Chicago was the only city with major airports being patrolled by unarmed officers and that those officers have been told to “run and hide” in the event of an active shooter.
