We are looking for a new Data and Investigative Projects Editor. Are you the right person? We want you to apply!
Who we are
The NJ.com data and interactives team is a fast-growing group of local journalists from diverse backgrounds that have a track record of stories that make change and show Jersey life in a different way. We’ve written day-to-day data news, used tools to connect readers to their town, visualized complex stories and created databases to investigate abuse of power in New Jersey. Our main office is in Woodbridge, NJ.
What you’ll do:
Guide the data team in daily coverage, including breaking news and collaborations with reporters on the news of the day.
Manage and support newsroom collaborations on big projects and deep-dive investigations.
Help develop our voice and identity as a team.
What we’re looking for:
A passion for local journalism, accountability and transparency.
An innovator who can bring fresh ideas to the newsroom. Experience with cutting-edge storytelling techniques is a plus.
Proven experience in leading major enterprise projects to the finish line, especially data-driven ones.
Solid data literacy is essential. Coding skills are a plus, but not a requirement.
Even if you don’t feel you meet all of the requirements, but feel you have other things to offer or to bring to the table, we still want to hear from you. Tell us in your cover letter why you think you should be considered for a position with us.
