NBC News Digital is seeking a data journalist responsible for conceiving, reporting and writing stories around data and visuals. The stories will be on a variety of topics in the news, from law enforcement to COVID-19, from politics to race relations to climate change, all combining data discovery and analysis with reporting. You will be part of NBC Digital’s award-winning Data Graphics team, which has built a culture of data-driven journalism and visual storytelling at NBC News alongside many of the best designers, polling experts, editors and reporters in the business.
We are especially interested in hearing from candidates who are based outside of New York, Washington or Los Angeles to add geographical diversity to our staff. Women and diverse candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
*Identify interesting datasets and stories, and report and write them
*Acquire, process, parse, and occasionally combine diverse datasets
*Suggest and build static and interactive data visualizations and novel ways of telling stories
*Work comfortably across platforms including TV, web, and mobile to tell stories around data
*Be responsible for the coverage of stories throughout the day as they arise
*Be willing to work overtime and on weekends as required on breaking news stories
*Have a strong sense of urgency and desire to learn emerging technologies and share them to the rest of the newsroom
*Partner with colleagues throughout the NBC News Group, occasionally help develop ideas for segments, panel discussions, series and news reports
