Reporting to the Innovation Editor you will be part of a small, multi-disciplinary team of editors and developers dedicated to storytelling experimentation both on and off-platform.  Team members work with reporters, editors, designers and developers to create rich story experiences on a wide variety of projects.

What You’ll Do

We are looking for someone who works collaboratively, learns quickly and is an excellent communicator. Your portfolio demonstrates strong design work, strong storytelling techniques and UX knowledge. You should also have extensive experience with web development technologies. Any experience with video, photography, illustration, server-side technologies, and/or game mechanics is a big plus.

We want a team member who is passionate about designing and making great experiences. You are an original and critical thinker; can who communicate and thrive amongst a wide range of contributors. You’re also a flexible person who has the patience to collaborate with people of various technical skill levels, and you naturally foster an environment of learning and mature and constructive dialogue.

Who We’re Looking For

  • 4+ years of design experience.
  • Experience in media, or a media-adjacent industry a plus.
  • Strong visual and interactive design skills – a clear grasp of typography, layout, color, motion and behavior.
  • 2 + years with client-side development, including HTML, CSS and Javascript, including frameworks like React.
  • Basic knowledge of Git.
  • Ability to convey interactive story ideas and complex interactions with wireframes and prototypes.
  • Demonstrated ability to envision and direct the creation of presentations that intelligently incorporate visual media and text.
  • Attention to detail and excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and to adapt to change in a daily, unpredictable news production environment.
  • A pragmatic innovator whose solutions elicit responses that justify the effort and investment.
  • A keen interest in our collaborators and competitors across our industry
