Responsibilities

The Center for Collaborative Journalism in partnership with the Department of Journalism & Media Studies invites applications for a non-tenure track position as a Journalist-in-Residence/Assistant Professor of Practice. The CCJ is interested in a professional journalist with a specialization in multimedia storytelling to include experience with investigative reporting and data journalism.

This is a year-round, non-tenure track position in which the candidate will lead core investigative, data and engagement reporting classes for students who learn to produce content for print, online, radio and broadcast news outlets. The candidate will also remain active in a professional journalism capacity by contributing work to CCJs partner newsrooms and contributing work to community engagement efforts. The candidate also will assist with CCJs ongoing efforts to recruit a diverse group of students into the program.

Qualifications

At least five years in a professional newsroom is required. Full-time experience in multimedia storytelling within the past two years with some experience in radio and/or podcasting is strongly preferred. A master’s degree from an accredited college/university in journalism or a related field is required. Candidates should have solid experience using technology – such as computer-assisted reporting, DSLRs, audio equipment, mobile video, and other multimedia storytelling tools. Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud tools is also preferred. Candidates should have strong storytelling skills as well as excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.

The Center is a unique community media collaborative combining Mercers liberal arts-based journalism and media studies program with the professional expertise of The Telegraph, Georgias third-largest daily newspaper, Georgia Public Broadcasting, the third-largest public broadcaster in the country based on population reach, and 13WMAZ, the most-watched television station in central Georgia. The Center also manages Mercer’s low-watt, non-commercial station WMUB.
