Are you an experienced journalist or part of a small or mid-sized newsroom and have a great idea for an investigation? Are you a journalist of color who is eager to tackle new investigative projects? Do you want to work with one of the most respected investigative teams in American journalism? Apply for the Spotlight Investigative Journalism Fellowship. If you are selected, you or your team will receive up to $100,000 and help from editors and reporters on the Boston Globe Spotlight Team to pursue your project.

This year, the coronavirus pandemic has deepened the crisis in local journalism, resulting in job cuts, belt-tightening, and even more hurdles to producing groundbreaking investigative journalism. Because of this, we decided to open up the application process to include not only freelance reporters, but also other newsrooms and multi-reporter teams. Do you or your team have the makings of a great project, but are in need of extra resources and support?

This year has also brought heightened awareness of the importance of racial diversity in newsrooms. We see this as a potential opportunity to bring more reporters of color into investigative journalism.

Apply online now. Deadline is September 24. All work would be produced in collaboration with the Globe.

If you previously applied to this fellowship before the pandemic took hold, don’t worry, your submission is already in the applicant pool.
