Speaker Bios

  • Sarah Cohen is the Knight professor of journalism at the Walter Cronkite School at Arizona State University. She previous worked as a reporter and editor for The New York Times and The Washington Post. Her awards include the Pulitzer Prize for Investigative Reporting, the IRE medal, the RFK award and the Goldsmith award. Cohen is a past Knight Chair at Duke University and a reporter in Florida. She is a past president of IRE.

  • MARK HORVIT is an associate professor at the University of Missouri School of Journalism, where he teaches investigative reporting and is director of the school’s State Government Reporting Program. He previously served as executive director of IRE and NICAR. Horvit worked as a reporter and editor for 20 years before joining IRE.
