This session will cover the fundamentals of web scraping using the Python scripting language. We'll go through which libraries are best to integrate into your scraper as you write it; show you how to handle common issues that can come up when you're capturing data; and discuss how to get your results into a usable format when you're all done.

This session will be most useful if: You have a grounding in the basics of Python or another programming language.

Speaker Bios

  • Paul Schreiber was the lead developer for FiveThirtyEight at ABC News and The Undefeated at ESPN. Previously, he spent eight years as a Mac OS X engineer at Apple, served as the founding CTO at TurboVote, codeveloped the 2008 Obama campaign's voter registration tool and built Admitting Failure for Engineers Without Borders Canada. Paul can be found baking cakes, hosting house concerts, biking around Brooklyn, playing hockey and doing crossword puzzles in ink. @paulschreiber
