Investigative reporting often comes with new and complex challenges -- including when it comes to ethics. This session will dive into examples of ethical challenges faced before, during and after an investigation, including questions related to digital and innovative storytelling and linking to original source documents and data.

 

Speaker Bios

  • Kristen Hare covers the evolution of local media for The Poynter Institute. Hare has covered the media for Poynter since 2013. Previously, she covered race, immigration, the Census and aging for the St. Louis Beacon, and was the Sunday features writer for the St. Joseph News-Press. Hare is an MU grad, a former Peace Corps volunteer and a mom that frequently allows breakfast for dinner. @kristenhare

  • Lynn Walsh is an Emmy award-winning freelance journalist who has worked in investigative, data and TV journalism at the national level as well as locally in California, Ohio, Texas and Florida. She produces content focused on government accountability, public access to information and freedom of expression issues. She’s also helping to rebuild trust between newsrooms and the public through the Trusting News project. @LWalsh
