Come experience the real heart-pounding excitement of a breaking news simulation where your investigative and computer-assisted reporting skills will be put to the test as teams compete to see who can break real, enterprise news in a minute-by-minute breaking news scenario. Sharpen your skills or learn new techniques to take back to your newsroom to help your team win the day the next time a big breaking news story happens in your backyard. This class will also teach you skills you can use for everyday general assignment reporting/stories.

To get the most out of this session, bring your own computer and plan to connect to the Internet. We’ll be running through hands-on exercises in real time.

Speaker Bios

  • Hard to believe but more than 35 years ago Stephen began as a GA reporter in Roanoke, VA. Since then he’s covered everything from shuttle launches to hurricanes, presidents to popes. Now a founding member of NBC Bay Area’s 17-member Investigative Unit, he’s won everything from a Peabody, to a duPont, a national SPJ, 3 Murrow & 6 AP awards, 17 regional Emmys and a national Emmy nomination. He's taught at IRE for a decade. His work has changed laws & lives. @stephenstocktv
