Speaker Bios

  • Tom Robbins an investigative journalist in residence at CUNY Graduate School of Journalism since 2011. Former columnist and staff writer at the Village Voice, New York Daily News, and New York Observer. His series on violence in New York prisons, produced with the Marshall Project and The New York Times and Times reporters Michael Winerip and Michael Schwirtz, was a 2016 Pulitzer Prize finalist for Investigative Reporting and won the 2016 Hillman Prize for Newspaper Journalism.

  • Matt Schafer represents journalists and media companies in defamation, right of access, and intellectual property cases. He also spends much of his practice advising clients on freedom of information laws in states from coast to coast and at the Federal level.  While in law school, he interned for the office of the general counsel at National Public Radio, where he focused on Freedom of Information Act issues.
