Plenty of tips and strategies for handling tough situations, ethical trouble spots, etc. Also includes tips for who to get on camera, how to convince people to talk, how to write questions and how to follow up after the interview.

Speaker Bios

  • At age 16, Louis Aguilar was declared “incorrigible” by the Catholic nuns of St. Hedwig High. He has eagerly tried to live up to the title. He is an award-winning reporter, including staff writing gigs at the Washington Post and Denver Post. Since 2004, he has helped chronicle the epic nature of Detroit, his native city, for The Detroit News. He has written one book and working on another. In 2010, he was named a Kresge Fellow of the Literary Arts, a $25,000 award.

  • M.L. Elrick is a Pulitzer Prize and Emmy Award winning investigative reporter and former Detroit Tigers beer man. He is host of the ML's Soul of Detroit podcast ( and co-author of "The Kwame Sutra: Musings on Lust, Life and Leadership from Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick." M.L. has worked for more than half of the mainstream media outlets in Detroit - sometimes more than once. He is the world's foremost expert on the early life of Eminem. @elrick
