Getting started: Introduction to CAR and the conference
Are you new to data journalism or does this happen to be your first time at a CAR conference? Is it time to up your game but you're not sure how to take the next step? If so, this session will help you get on track to make sure that you get the best experience possible from the 2018 CAR Conference. We'll highlight sessions and give you tips for success during and after the conference.
Kimbriell Kelly is a reporter on the Investigative Unit at The Washington Post and was part of the newspaper's team that won the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting for documenting the number of fatal police-involved shootings. Kelly was also a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in 2019 as one of the lead reporters for the Murder with Impunity series, a more than year-long examination of homicides in major cities across the United States. @kimbriellwapo
Charles Minshew is the Director of Data Services for IRE and NICAR. He helps maintain the Database Library and helps members with custom data analysis needs. He most recently worked as a multimedia artist at the Orlando Sentinel, specializing in data visualization and analysis. He was also a member of the Denver Post staff that won the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for breaking news coverage of the Aurora theater massacre. A 2013 graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism and Georgia Southern University, Charles is a native of Rochelle, Ga. @CharlesMinshew
