This session will provide an overview of Datakit, a tool built by The Associated Press to manage the lifecycle of data projects. We’ll cover how we use Datakit to bootstrap project code, share work with colleagues and publish data projects. Attendees will have a chance to try the tool themselves and will learn how to customize Datakit for their own projects or strip it down for parts.

Speaker Bios

  • Angeliki Kastanis is a data journalist at The Associated Press. She comes to AP with a Master of Public Policy from The University of Chicago. She worked as a policy analyst for the Williams Institute at UCLA School of Law during some of the most fascinating years for LGBT law and policy. Angeliki has a deep appreciation for data and experience in communicating statistical information to a general audience using visualizations and interactives. @angel_kastanis

  • Serdar Tumgoren teaches data journalism at Stanford University. He previously wrangled data and code at the Associated Press, The Washington Post, and Congressional Quarterly.
