We will navigate the murky industry of foreign lobbying, explore the world of “Dark Money” in political nonprofits, help you uncover the “New Dark Money” filtering into the president’s pockets and show you a burgeoning new form of Astroturf lobbying that’s flooding government websites to influence decision-makers.


Speaker Bios

  • Grimaldi is a senior writer for The Wall Street Journal based in Washington D.C., where he specializes in government and political investigations. A 2006 Pulitzer Prize winner, Grimaldi won the 2017 Dirksen Award for congressional reporting. He frequently lectures at George Washington University and Boston Law School, among other places. He has worked at The San Diego Tribune, Seattle Times and The Orange County Register, where he contributed to Pulitzer-winning work. 

  • Andy Lehren is senior editor for the NBC News investigative team. Previously at The New York Times. Led NBC’s work on the Implant Files collaboration. Mined the Snowden files. Probed Wikileaks diplomatic cables troves, including for the best-selling book “Open Secrets.” Covered the military, policing. terrorism, more. Honors include a Polk, Peabody, three IRE awards and contributing to a Pulitzer. Specializes in data journalism. Teaches  @cunyjschool. @lehrennbc

  • Megan Luther is an investigative producer with InvestigateTV, Gray Television's national investigative team. Previously, she was IRE's Senior Training Director. Other former titles include reporter, data analyst and overnight DJ. Megan, mother of two under six, currently works remotely in South Dakota. @MeganLuther

  • Robert joined the Center in August 2011 as the outside spending and PACs researcher. In 2012, he started CRP's Politically Active Nonprofits project, which tracks the financial networks of "dark money" groups. In 2014, he won, with colleague Viveca Novak, the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi Award for Public Service in Online Journalism for a series of stories published on @RobertMaguire_
