Election & Politics Track: The documents you’re not using to investigate your capitol
This session will focus on how to find and scrutinize documents that result in great watchdog stories. From the governor’s office to state agencies, you’ll learn where to look and what to uncover.
Jeremy Finley is a two-time IRE winner and the chief investigative reporter at WSMV-TV in Nashville. His debut novel, THE DARKEST TIME OF NIGHT, was called one of the best books of the summer of 2018 by People magazine and the NY Post. His second novel, THE DARK ABOVE, releases on July 23rd.
Rui Kaneya is an investigative reporter on The Center for Public Integrity’s state politics team. Previously, he was an investigative reporter for Honolulu Civil Beat, covering criminal justice, immigration and other social justice issues. He was also a correspondent for the Columbia Journalism Review and the investigations editor at The Chicago Reporter.
Barbara Rodriguez is the statehouse reporter for The Associated Press in Des Moines, Iowa, where she covers the governor's office, state government and legislative policies. She's worked for AP in Illinois, North Carolina, Ohio and Wisconsin.
