You’ll hear about pivotal moments, bizarre twists and befuddled bureaucrats who didn’t know what hit them. Featuring special guests! Expected guest speakers include Crina Boros, Center for Investigative Journalism; Sarah Cohen, ASU Walter Cronkite School of Journalism; Steve Doig, ASU Walter Cronkite School of Journalism; Jaimi Dowdell, Reuters; Mark Horvit, University of Missouri; Brant Houston, University of Illinois; Clarence Jones, independent journalist; Jennifer LaFleur, Investigative Reporting Workshop; and James B. Steele, independent journalist.

Speaker Bios

  • Doug Haddix is executive director of Investigative Reporters and Editors. He oversees training, conferences and services for 6,000 members worldwide. Previously, Haddix worked as an IRE training director, an assistant vice president at Ohio State University, director of the Kiplinger Program in Public Affairs Journalism, and as an editor and reporter at newspapers in Illinois, Ohio and Pennsylvania. He earned a master's in journalism from Indiana University.

  • Shawn McIntosh is editorial director at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, overseeing news content, including investigative reporting and data journalism. A career-long member of IRE, she credits the training and camaraderie offered here for any success she has had. She has previously been top editor in Jackson, Miss., and worked in investigative roles at The Dallas Morning News and USA TODAY. @shawnmcintosh and @AJCInvestigate
