Speaker Bios

  • Randy Evans is executive director of the Iowa Freedom of Information Council, a nonprofit education and advocacy organization that works for government transparency. He took the council's top position after a 40-year career as a reporter and editor for the Des Moines Register.

  • Erin Jordan is an investigative report for The (Cedar Rapids) Gazette, where she covers topics that include tax breaks, water quality and gender equity in sports. Erin was the Des Moines Register's Iowa City bureau reporter from 2003 to 2009. She is board president for the Iowa Center for Public Affairs Journalism (, a news nonprofit. Erin has a journalism degree from Iowa State University and is married with three kids.
