Our speakers will offer advice on developing a documents state of mind, navigating public records and exploring key records on a variety of beats. We'll also cover how to incorporate data into your stories and deconstruct the data analysis behind a nationwide investigation.

Speaker Bios

  • Liz Navratil covers state government for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Philadelphia Inquirer. Before joining the Harrisburg bureau, she covered crime and corruption in Pittsburgh and served as a ‘15-16 O’Brien Fellow at Marquette University. She accidentally discovered she has a budding affection for data journalism. @LizNavratil

  • Jim Steele is a Pulitzer Prize winning investigative reporter and co- author of eight books including two NYTimes best sellers who has written for Vanity Fair, Time magazine and the Philadelphia Inquirer in his more investigative career.
