We'll discuss how to find what data and documents are available from local, state or federal agencies, strategies for writing requests to help you get exactly what you want, and how to overcome some of the most common roadblocks to receiving data and documents.

Speaker Bios

  • Tom Clyde focuses his practice on complex business and appellate matters, with an emphasis on representing print,television,internet and communications companies.He defends clients in lawsuits challenging First Amendment protected speech.Mr. Clyde has extensive experience in defending publishers,broadcasters and other information providers against claims alleging defamation,invasion of privacy,infringement of intellectual property rights and newsgathering misconduct.He represented numerous internet-based publishers in cases involving privacy,blogging,anonymous speech,the DMCA,user generated content and electronic eavesdropping issues.

  • Jennifer Peebles is a newsroom data specialist at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, helping reporters get and tell stories with data (and sometimes documents). She has previously been a reporter and editor with The (Nashville) Tennessean, the Washington (D.C.) Examiner and the website Texas Watchdog.
